a little help with Eczema please

Just wondering if anyone has a great treatment for eczema. Aubrey has flare ups off and on and at present, the stuff the doctor gave us is only providing temporary relief but not really fixing the problem. If you have a great tip or a preferred type of lotion that's worked for you, I'd love to hear about it and hopefully avoid another trip to the doctor. (It seems like we are there every week between the three girls and me -our doctors are all at the same office!)

Alyssa...Austin gets eczema, and his was really really bad when he was younger. I would try the store brand lotions but I finally had to fork out the money for the name brand Aquaphor. The one that comes in a big container I think it is around $14-$16 but so worth it!! If you have already tried this, than I don't know what else to do. I used to have to get Austin out of the tub and while he was still wet put Vaseline all over his body and then put his clothes over that so it suffocated his skin and soaked it all up. I hated watching him go through this uncomfortable time. His is almost gone we just have to use the Aquaphor in the winter now....good luck!!

Aquaphor is great for really bad eczema! All of us girls use it when things get bad, like broken skin, bleeding etc. I try to prevent that from happening by using the regular Eucerin products everyday. Cory says, bath in luke warm, not hot, water and keep it under 15 minutes. Pat the water off her body, don't rub!
There you have it, hope it helps!

I'm sorry it has taken me so long to comment on this - all 3 of my kids have had nasty bouts with eczema. I absolutely swear by Cetaphil lotion, which you can get in a 2 pack at Costco. We keep it in great supply here because my kids need it after every bath, as soon as they come out of the tub (don't even dry them off much - my doc says you want to trap all the water inside their skin before it can evaporate). As long as we do that, we rarely need the prescription cream. Good luck!

PS - If you go buy it at Costco, don't take all three girls there by yourself! :)

Came to your blog through the Millet's! My daughter still battles with eczema and we have a strict regimen. When E's skin gets really bad we bathe her 2-3 times/day in luke warm water with oatmeal (in a nylon under the tap). We leave her in the tub only 5-10 minutes and then pat her dry and COAT (or should I say LATHER) her with lotion. We usually use Aveno (green bottle) or Glysomed but anything that traps the moisture is good. She uses NO soaps and we use the gentlest laundry detergent on the market. We also have to wash her sheets regularly and keep her room as dust free as possible. That still didn't get the flare ups under control so we also eliminated wheat and dairy from her diet which, with the above efforts, totally did the trick! It is challenging but totally worth the effort. I know every kid is different but that's what works for us...so far!!
